Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden
Growing up in the Bay Area, one of my favorite traditions was to go on a garden tour put on by the Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden in Palo Alto with my mom and her friends. While they still have this event (it's on April 24 & 25 this year, and it goes through the gardens of 5 nearby private homes) it's definitely more geared for adults. Never fear! Second Saturday is here!
Second Saturday at Gamble Garden is a free event for families to come enjoy. The events run from 10:00-11:30 am on the second Saturday of each month. The next one is on March 14th and it includes a guided nature hunt for kids in the gardens. I would recommend signing up online so that you have a guaranteed spot.
Each child receives a magnifying glass that they keep and can use to look at flowers, bugs, and more. When we went, we learned a ton about bees from our tour guide. We loved ending in the beautiful garden that was just blooming when we were there.
There is also usually some type of craft or activity for kids. When we went they had leaf rubbing and the opportunity to take home some succulent clippings in a handmade newspaper planter. They also have a plant sale if you're interested in taking something home with you. I kill every plant I touch, so I never want to subject one of these well-loved plants to my negligence.
I have so many amazing memories at Gamble Garden from my childhood, and I was so excited to share them with my daughter. I can't wait until she's old enough (and has enough patience) to go to the spring garden tour!
