Wildwood Park

Updated: Feb 22, 2020

Right near downtown Saratoga, there is an adorable park that gives you the best of both worlds. It feels like you're in nature, but you have good bathrooms, picnic tables, and more. Parking can be a bit difficult at times, so be ready to park on the street and walk if you go during a busy time of day.

Wildwood Park has a special place in my heart because I was a camp counselor there for many years. We used to take kids on mini hikes through the wooded area, play in the sand volleyball pits, do arts and crafts on the picnic tables, and perform shows on the stage. I spent many summer days utilizing every corner of this park, and look back on those memories fondly. That's why I decided to feature this for our first park badge!

Not many people know that there is a trail behind the park (honestly I'm not sure that it's a real trail but we used it for years). If you walk to the right of the playground, past the bathrooms, and continue up the road, you will find a small trail that goes behind the playground and comes out on the other side of the park by the stage. We used to have kids collect leaves (after making sure there was no poison oak/poison ivy) to make leaf rubbings, collect sticks to use for arts and crafts, and have them draw what they saw in "nature."

Speaking of the stage, there is a GIANT wooden stage that kids can run on, perform on, or relax on. Sometimes during the summer the City of Saratoga does movie nights or concerts in Wildwood Park and uses the stage. I've also seen children's theatre performances on this stage through the years.

You might be tempted on a hot day to go into the creek that runs through the park, but I would advise against it. There are signs saying that polluted water might be present, so I wouldn't risk it. I've still seen people go in the water, but I didn't want to take the chance with a four year old.

There is a sand volleyball pit, two horseshoe pits, and picnic areas all for rental. In addition, there is playground equipment and even a water play area. The water play area wasn't working when we went, so take that into account. I wouldn't come to this park solely for the water feature. A huge grassy area provides an ideal setting for a picnic or a home base for a family.
